Church Leadership...

Pastor Stephen and Miriam Greening

Pastor Stephen and his wife Miriam came to pastor New Beginnings Christian Centre in 1996. Pastor Stephen was born in the small mining village of Bedlinog in the South Wales Valleys.  He later met and married Miriam from a neighbouring village called Gelligaer and settled in the town of Bargoed with Miriam and their three children.  In his early adulthood, Pastor Stephen became the Pastor of his childhood church in the village of Treharris where he injected life into the community by transforming the image of the church within the community.  In his local village, Pastor Stephen was labelled "The Trendy Rev" due to being different and breaking the mould of the traditional church and bringing the church to the younger generations.  They developed a children's and youth work in the area and saw 100-140 children attending the Sunday School and children's events, and a quickly growing youth group.

In 1995, Pastor Stephen and Miriam were given a vision "go and measure another thousand". At the time, they thought this was for the area where they were, and considered a bigger building for the church.  Little did they know that this vision would take them 250 miles from their home in South Wales to Halifax in Yorkshire, and in 1996 they travelled every weekend the 500 mile round trip to Halifax and back home to pastor the church.  In January 1997, Pastor Stephen was inducted as the Pastor of the church, and in April of 1997 they made the permanent move to Halifax.

In 1996, New Beginnings Christian Centre had just 14 members.  Pastor Stephen and Miriam were back to square one! Now in 2012, we are now just standing room only.  New Beginnings Christian Centre is now a multi cultural church with people from Poland, Iran, Zimbabwe, Philippines and the UK.  This year is a turning point for the church as we move from the building that has housed the church since 1934 to a bigger site so that we can accomodate everyone.  As well as a fast growing adult congregation, NBCC also has a thriving Childrens and schools work were they reach thousands of children in and around Calderdale every week.
